Table Mountain is one of the most iconic destinations in the world, and no visit to Cape Town would be complete without experiencing the beauty of the Mother City from the top of Table Mountain.

If you are fit and active enough, you can hike to the top. Personally, I would always do this as part of a group, with a guide, or ideally both. Not only is it safer, but you also get to learn about the fascinating flora and fauna along the way.

So, what about taking a tour there with Convoy Tours?

Well, that’s the thing. We don’t offer tours to Table Mountain, and I’ll explain why.

Table Mountain is one of those places that is best visited independently, when the conditions are right. The reasons are quite simple:

• It is 100% weather-dependent.
• It is impossible to plan reliably in advance.
• If it is windy, the cable car may be closed.
• If it is cloudy, there is often little point in going, as the views from the top may be completely obscured.
• You need at least a couple of hours to properly enjoy Table Mountain.
• This means a Cape Point tour would have to start later than usual.
• You could then spend the rest of the day standing in long lines waiting to get into other attractions, being served in restaurants, and generally waiting around.
• You simply cannot properly enjoy Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula in the same day without rushing one or both experiences.

For these reasons, we believe Table Mountain is best treated as a separate experience. Check the weather, check whether the cable car is operating, and visit when the conditions are right.
