Muizenberg Beach is one of the most famous beaches on the Cape Peninsula.

Located on the Southern Peninsula, not far from Kalk Bay – another part of Cape Town that I know particularly well – Muizenberg is probably best known for Surfers Corner, one of the most popular surfing spots in Cape Town.
It’s a fantastic place for families, beginners and anyone who simply wants to enjoy the ocean in a relaxed and fun environment. You don’t have to be an experienced surfer to enjoy Muizenberg. You can swim, walk along the beach, have something to eat, browse the surf shops or simply sit and watch the world go by.
But Muizenberg Beach has a particularly special place in my heart.
I lived close to Muizenberg for a long time, and I’ve always loved being near the ocean. I enjoy running along the beach, swimming in the sea and just spending time there. Add in the surf shops, cafés, restaurants and generally relaxed atmosphere, and it’s very easy to understand why Muizenberg is such a popular part of Cape Town.
But there is another reason I love it.
Muizenberg Beach is where I made one of the most important decisions of my life.
It was a cold, dark, windy and thoroughly miserable afternoon. COVID was beginning to take hold around the world, and the news was full of stories about lockdowns, hospitals being overwhelmed and healthcare workers facing an incredibly uncertain future.
And it was there, on Muizenberg Beach, that I decided I was going to become a nurse.
At the time, I had absolutely no qualifications. I had left school at 16 without any.
But I made the decision anyway.
What followed was a very long, exciting, difficult and challenging journey. And around four years later, that journey culminated in me receiving my NMC pin and becoming a registered nurse.
I will never forget that day.
It remains one of the most important days of my life, and something I am incredibly proud of.
I’ve written much more about that journey in another blog post, which I’ll link below.
Muizenberg has something for everybody. Surfing, great food, great walks, swimming, good people – there’s always something going on.
And for me, it has something else: great memories.
Because Muizenberg Beach is where my life changed.
