The Cape Peninsula Tour: Why We Start Early

What’s the best way to run a Cape Peninsula tour? That’s a tough question. Every guide will have their own answer to that. For me, I only run tours that I would pay to go on myself; that is the foundation that all my decisions are built on. Here is a paradox: I am a nurse and a tour guide. When I’m a nurse, I’m a people person; when I’m tour guiding, not so much! I am only really interested in my people, my clients!

That’s why we like an early start.

From Cape Town, we usually head down the coast through Muizenberg, St James and Kalk Bay. There’s plenty to look at along the way, but we don’t want to spend the whole morning getting to the penguins. Boulders Beach is wonderful at any time; it’s even better when you can take your time and watch them without a crowd around you.

The drive back is part of the day too. Misty Cliffs, Kommetjie and Chapman’s Peak are spectacular, especially when the light is good. If you fancy a glass of wine overlooking the ocean, we can make a stop at Cape Point Vineyards. If you’d rather keep moving or linger somewhere else, that’s fine as well.

Also, the Cape of Good Hope is a big deal. We want you to really enjoy it down there: take your time, hike and explore if you want to. That means having the time to enjoy it without rushing.

Of course, Cape Town weather has its own ideas. Some days the sensible thing is to change the order. Your route may also be different if we’re collecting you from Franschhoek rather than the Waterfront. A good private tour has to leave room for that.

Our aim is simple: see the places you came to see, enjoy the journey between them, and avoid the busiest times wherever we can. We zig while others zag.
