The Flagship Cape Peninsula Tour: Experience the Cape Without the Crowds

The Cape Peninsula Tour is the flagship day tour offered by Convoy Tours, covering the major sights, wildlife and landscapes of the peninsula in a carefully planned private tour.

We leave Cape Town early to make the most of the day and avoid the busiest periods. Timing is particularly important on the Cape Peninsula, where popular attractions can become very busy later in the morning. Our experience allows us to plan the day around traffic, visitor numbers, opening times and the conditions on the peninsula.

Cape Point is one of the major highlights. Located within Table Mountain National Park, the area is known for its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, ocean views and extensive fynbos. Visitors can explore the area and enjoy the scenery while learning about the natural environment of the Cape Peninsula.

The tour also includes a visit to Boulders Beach, home to a well-established colony of African penguins. Getting there at the right time helps us avoid the largest crowds and creates a more intimate opportunity to observe these remarkable birds. Seeing African penguins close to the water, moving between the rocks and going about their daily lives, can be a genuine once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience.

The Cape Peninsula is also rich in wildlife. Depending on the conditions and locations visited during the day, clients may encounter Cape fur seals, ostriches, baboons and numerous species of birds. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but the peninsula provides excellent opportunities to see animals in their natural environment.

The flora is equally important. Much of the peninsula is covered by fynbos, vegetation belonging to the Cape Floristic Region. This region has exceptionally high plant diversity, with a large number of species found nowhere else in the world.

Chapman’s Peak Drive is another major part of the tour when the road is open and conditions permit. The road runs between Hout Bay and Noordhoek along the Atlantic coastline, with steep mountains on one side and dramatic ocean views on the other. There are several viewpoints along the route where the scenery can be appreciated.

The day is structured to make efficient use of the available time while allowing clients to properly experience the places we visit. We are not trying to rush through a long list of stops. The aim is to see the major attractions, experience the landscape and allow time for wildlife and photography.

We have completed more than 1,500 Cape Peninsula Tours, giving us extensive practical knowledge of the route and how to manage the day. Our early departures, private vehicle and flexible approach allow us to avoid many of the problems associated with larger group tours.
