Why We Only Offer Private Tours

At Convoy Tours, we made a big decision: we moved away from group tours and now offer private tours exclusively.

It wasn’t a decision we took lightly. Group tours were a big part of what we offered for many years, but eventually we realised that the experience could be so much better.

Since moving away from group tours, the customer experience has improved massively.

In this short video I explain why

The biggest differences are simple:

  • No waiting on other people – your day isn’t held up because another passenger is late, taking too long at a stop or isn’t ready to leave.
  • No negative, “can’t do” types – on a group tour, one person can sometimes have a negative attitude and constantly find reasons why something can’t be done. With a private tour, we can concentrate on what we can do.
  • No driving around for an hour collecting people – group tours can mean spending a large part of the morning driving from hotel to hotel, collecting passengers and waiting for people to finish breakfast or get themselves organised. With a private tour, your day starts when you’re ready.
  • No moaning and whining from attention seekers – you don’t have to spend your day listening to someone constantly complaining, demanding attention or trying to make the entire tour about them.

These things might sound small, but they make a huge difference to the atmosphere of a tour.

With a private tour, the day is about you and your travelling companions.

Want to move on? No problem.

Want to stop for a photograph? Let’s do it.

Want to ask your guide questions or change the pace of the day? That’s what private touring is all about.

There is also a much better relationship between the guide and the customer. We can actually talk, share stories, answer questions and get to know the people we’re showing around.

We’re not constantly looking at the clock because we have another group of passengers to collect or another hotel to get to.

We’re there to give you the best day possible.

That is the biggest reason we made the move.

Since switching from group tours to private tours, we have seen a massive improvement in the customer experience.

The tours are more relaxed. They’re more personal. They’re more flexible and they’re more enjoyable.

For us, that is what touring should be about.

Not rushing people around. Not spending hours collecting passengers. Not dealing with negativity.

Just showing people Cape Town, sharing our knowledge and giving them a day they will remember.

That’s why we only offer private tours.
