Why 5 Days Is the Perfect Amount of Time to Spend on the Garden Route

How long should you spend on the Garden Route?

If you’re travelling from Cape Town, we believe five days is the perfect amount of time to experience the Garden Route properly. It gives you enough time to enjoy the scenery, explore some of the highlights and, importantly, not feel like you are constantly travelling.

Four days is also perfectly fine and can give you a great Garden Route experience. But once you start trying to fit the route into three days, things become much more rushed.

Why Five Days Works So Well

The Garden Route covers a considerable distance, and there is a lot to see along the way.

It isn’t simply a case of driving from one attraction to the next. The journey itself is part of the experience, with spectacular coastline, forests, beaches, mountains and beautiful towns along the way.

With five days, you have time to enjoy the journey rather than constantly watching the clock.

You can stop for photographs, explore a viewpoint, take a walk, enjoy lunch somewhere interesting or simply spend some time appreciating the scenery.

Three Days Can Mean Too Much Travelling

A three-day Garden Route tour from Cape Town is possible, but you will be travelling a lot.

Because of the distances involved, you can end up spending much of your time on the road in order to fit everything in. That leaves less time to actually experience the places you have travelled so far to see.

The Garden Route deserves better than that.

Four Days Is Also a Great Option

If you don’t have five days available, don’t worry.

Four days is still enough time to have a fantastic Garden Route experience and see many of the region’s highlights.

The important thing is not trying to squeeze too much into your itinerary. A private tour allows us to concentrate on the places that interest you most and create a journey that works for you.

The Advantage of a Private Tour

At Convoy Tours, our Garden Route tours are completely private.

That means there is no large group to keep up with and no need to follow an itinerary simply because everyone else is doing it.

We can leave early, avoid the busiest periods where possible and spend more time at the places you really want to see.

You Can Even Start or End in Port Elizabeth

Your Garden Route tour doesn’t necessarily have to start and finish in Cape Town.

You can even start or end your private Garden Route tour in Port Elizabeth, making it easier to include the Garden Route as part of a wider South African adventure.

Five Days Gives You Time to Enjoy It

Five days is, in our opinion, the perfect amount of time for a private Garden Route tour from Cape Town.

Four days is also enough for a wonderful experience.

Three days? It can be done, but expect to spend considerably more time travelling.

The Garden Route isn’t somewhere you should rush through. Give yourself enough time to slow down, explore and enjoy one of South Africa’s most spectacular regions.
